What happens if I choose to hide my email?

If you choose to hide your email when creating your account with Apple, your account will be associated with an anonymous relay email (this email will look something like 1a2b3c@privaterelay.appleid.com. Email notifications from 23andMe will be forwarded through this relay email to your personal email inbox.

Hiding your email will also affect sharing invitations, as users will need to input your anonymous relay email (as opposed to your personal email address) to establish a sharing connection with your account.

If you need assistance from Customer Care, you’ll either need to contact us directly from that relay email (preferred), or provide it in your correspondence so that we can locate your account.

You can find the relay email associated with your account in two locations:

1. Navigate to your 23andMe account settings, and the email will be listed under Account Information.
2. Visit your Apple ID account page, scroll to the Security section, and click “Manage” under “Apps & Websites Using Apple ID” to find the relay email associated with your 23andMe account.

How do I unlink my account from Sign in with Apple?

If you would like to unlink your account from Sign in with Apple and your account is associated with your real Apple ID email (i.e. you didn’t choose to hide your email when creating an account), follow the steps below:

1. Navigate to your account settings.
2. Click “Unlink Account” next to the Apple Sign-in option.
3. Confirm that you would like to unlink from Apple Sign-in.
4. Locate your confirmation email titled “Successfully unlinked Apple sign in”. You’ll need to set a new password through this confirmation email.
5. After setting your password, you’ll be able to sign in normally for all future login attempts.

If you chose to hide your email when creating an account and have a relay email associated with your account (such as 1a2b3c@privaterelay.appleid.com), please contact 23andMe Customer Care for assistance with unlinking your account.

What if I forgot my Apple ID password?

If you do not remember the password to your Apple account, please visit the Apple Support Page for assistance in accessing your Apple account. Note: requesting a password reset through 23andMe will not allow you to reset your Apple password.

If you are unable to recover your Apple account after contacting them directly, please contact 23andMe Customer Care.

Why does it say my account is locked?

If you are seeing the message below and your account is linked with Apple, you can still log in using the Sign in with Apple button. This indicates that there were too many failed login attempts using the regular login entry (which will not work for Apple-linked accounts).
